सुंदरकांड चौपाई दोहा सहित
पूँछहीन बानर तहँ जाइहि। तब सठ निज नाथहि लइ आइहि॥ जिन्ह कै कीन्हिसि बहुत बड़ाई। देखउ मैं तिन्ह कै प्रभुताई॥1॥
जब बिना पूँछ का यह बंदर वहाँ (अपने स्वामी के पास) जाएगा, तब यह मूर्ख अपने मालिक को साथ ले आएगा। जिनकी इसने बहुत बड़ाई की है, मैं जरा उनकी प्रभुता (सामर्थ्य) तो देखूँ!॥1॥
When this tailless monkey goes there (to his master), then this fool will bring his master along with him. Let me just see the dominance (power) of those whom he has praised a lot!॥1॥
बचन सुनत कपि मन मुसुकाना। भइ सहाय सारद मैं जाना॥ जातुधान सुनि रावन बचना। लागे रचैं मूढ़ सोइ रचना॥2॥
यह वचन सुनते ही हनुमान्जी मन में मुस्कुराए (और मन ही मन बोले कि) मैं जान गया, सरस्वतीजी (इसे ऐसी बुद्धि देने में) सहायक हुई हैं। रावण के वचन सुनकर मूर्ख राक्षस वही (पूँछ में आग लगाने की) तैयारी करने लगे॥2॥
On hearing these words, Hanumanji smiled in his mind (and said in his mind) I know that Saraswatiji has helped (in giving him such intelligence). Hearing Ravana’s words, the foolish demons started making the same preparations (to set the tail on fire)॥2॥
रहा न नगर बसन घृत तेला। बाढ़ी पूँछ कीन्ह कपि खेला॥ कौतुक कहँ आए पुरबासी। मारहिं चरन करहिं बहु हाँसी॥3॥
(पूँछ के लपेटने में इतना कपड़ा और घी-तेल लगा कि) नगर में कपड़ा, घी और तेल नहीं रह गया। हनुमान्जी ने ऐसा खेल किया कि पूँछ बढ़ गई (लंबी हो गई)। नगरवासी लोग तमाशा देखने आए। वे हनुमान्जी को पैर से ठोकर मारते हैं और उनकी हँसी करते हैं॥3॥
(So much cloth and ghee and oil were used to wrap the tail that) there was no cloth, ghee and oil left in the city. Hanumanji played in such a way that the tail grew (became long). The townspeople came to watch the show. They kick Hanumanji and make fun of him.3॥
बाजहिं ढोल देहिं सब तारी। नगर फेरि पुनि पूँछ प्रजारी॥ पावक जरत देखि हनुमंता। भयउ परम लघुरूप तुरंता॥4॥
ढोल बजते हैं, सब लोग तालियाँ पीटते हैं। हनुमान्जी को नगर में फिराकर, फिर पूँछ में आग लगा दी। अग्नि को जलते हुए देखकर हनुमान्जी तुरंत ही बहुत छोटे रूप में हो गए॥4॥
Drums start playing, everyone claps. Hanumanji was paraded around the city and then his tail was set on fire. Seeing the fire burning, Hanumanji immediately became very small.4॥
निबुकि चढ़ेउ कप कनक अटारीं। भईं सभीत निसाचर नारीं॥5॥
बंधन से निकलकर वे सोने की अटारियों पर जा चढ़े। उनको देखकर राक्षसों की स्त्रियाँ भयभीत हो गईं॥5॥
Coming out of the bondage, they climbed up to the sleeping lofts. Seeing them the women of the demons became frightened.॥5॥
दोहा
हरि प्रेरित तेहि अवसर चले मरुत उनचास। अट्टहास करि गर्जा कपि बढ़ि लाग अकास॥25॥
उस समय भगवान् की प्रेरणा से उनचासों पवन चलने लगे। हनुमान्जी अट्टहास करके गर्जे और बढ़कर आकाश से जा लगे॥25॥
At that time, with the inspiration of God, forty-nine winds started blowing. Hanumanji roared with laughter and soared into the sky॥25॥
