सुनत सभय मन मुख मुसुकाई। कहत दसानन सबहि सुनाई॥ भूमि परा कर गहत अकासा। लघु तापस कर बाग बिलासा॥1॥
पत्रिका सुनते ही रावण मन में भयभीत हो गया, परंतु मुख से (ऊपर से) मुस्कुराता हुआ वह सबको सुनाकर कहने लगा- जैसे कोई पृथ्वी पर पड़ा हुआ हाथ से आकाश को पकड़ने की चेष्टा करता हो, वैसे ही यह छोटा तपस्वी (लक्ष्मण) वाग्विलास करता है (डींग हाँकता है)॥1॥
As soon as Ravana heard the magazine, he became frightened in his heart, but smiling on his face (from above) he told everyone and said – Just as someone lying on the earth tries to hold the sky with his hand, in the same way this little ascetic (Lakshman) Vagvilas. Does (boasts)॥1॥
कह सुक नाथ सत्य सब बानी। समुझहु छाड़ि प्रकृति अभिमानी॥ सुनहु बचन मम परिहरि क्रोधा। नाथ राम सन तजहु बिरोधा॥2॥
शुक (दूत) ने कहा- हे नाथ! अभिमानी स्वभाव को छोड़कर (इस पत्र में लिखी) सब बातों को सत्य समझिए। क्रोध छोड़कर मेरा वचन सुनिए। हे नाथ! श्री रामजी से वैर त्याग दीजिए॥2॥
Shuka (messenger) said – O Lord! Except the arrogant nature, consider everything (written in this letter) to be true. Leave your anger and listen to my words. Hey Nath! Give up enmity with Shri Ramji॥2॥
अति कोमल रघुबीर सुभाऊ। जद्यपि अखिल लोक कर राऊ॥ मिलत कृपा तुम्ह पर प्रभु करिही। उर अपराध न एकउ धरिही॥3॥
यद्यपि श्री रघुवीर समस्त लोकों के स्वामी हैं, पर उनका स्वभाव अत्यंत ही कोमल है। मिलते ही प्रभु आप पर कृपा करेंगे और आपका एक भी अपराध वे हृदय में नहीं रखेंगे॥3॥
Although Shri Raghuveer is the lord of all the worlds, his nature is very gentle. As soon as you meet, God will bless you and he will not keep a single crime of yours in his heart.॥3॥
जनकसुता रघुनाथहि दीजे। एतना कहा मोर प्रभु कीजे॥ जब तेहिं कहा देन बैदेही। चरन प्रहार कीन्ह सठ तेही॥4॥
जानकीजी श्री रघुनाथजी को दे दीजिए। हे प्रभु! इतना कहना मेरा कीजिए। जब उस (दूत) ने जानकीजी को देने के लिए कहा, तब दुष्ट रावण ने उसको लात मारी॥4॥
Janakiji, please give it to Shri Raghunathji. Oh God! Do as I say. When he (the messenger) asked to give it to Janakiji, then the evil Ravana kicked him.॥4॥
नाइ चरन सिरु चला सो तहाँ। कृपासिंधु रघुनायक जहाँ॥ करि प्रनामु निज कथा सुनाई। राम कृपाँ आपनि गति पाई॥5॥
वह भी (विभीषण की भाँति) चरणों में सिर नवाकर वहीं चला, जहाँ कृपासागर श्री रघुनाथजी थे। प्रणाम करके उसने अपनी कथा सुनाई और श्री रामजी की कृपा से अपनी गति (मुनि का स्वरूप) पाई॥5॥
He too (like Vibhishan) bowed his head at his feet and went to the place where Shri Raghunathji, the ocean of mercy, was. After paying obeisance, he narrated his story and by the grace of Shri Ramji he attained his destination (form of sage)॥5॥
रिषि अगस्ति कीं साप भवानी। राछस भयउ रहा मुनि ग्यानी॥ बंदि राम पद बारहिं बारा। मुनि निज आश्रम कहुँ पगु धारा॥6॥
(शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे भवानी! वह ज्ञानी मुनि था, अगस्त्य ऋषि के शाप से राक्षस हो गया था। बार-बार श्री रामजी के चरणों की वंदना करके वह मुनि अपने आश्रम को चला गया॥6॥
(Shivji says-) O Bhavani! He was a wise sage and had become a demon due to the curse of sage Agastya. After worshiping the feet of Shri Ramji again and again, that sage went to his ashram.॥6॥
दोहा
बिनय न मानत जलधि जड़ गए तीनि दिन बीति। बोले राम सकोप तब भय बिनु होइ न प्रीति॥57॥
इधर तीन दिन बीत गए, किंतु जड़ समुद्र विनय नहीं मानता। तब श्री रामजी क्रोध सहित बोले- बिना भय के प्रीति नहीं होती!॥57॥
Three days passed here, but the inert sea did not accept any politeness. Then Shri Ramji said with anger – There is no love without fear!॥57॥
